Fear and Hatred Keep the Republic(an) Strong

Last week I pointed out how disappointing it is that the Daily Sound has chosen to go "all right wing, all the time" with its syndicated columnist spot on its fledgling op-ed pages. In particular running Robert Novak depressed me, given he should be in jail for treason--after all, he outed a U.S. spy (and thereby helped ruin our intelligence work on Iran's nuclear capability, not that that matters--after all, if we really know what they're doing then it's harder to lie about it and start a war with them).

Of course, it's not like the Sound is alone in giving Novak a platform, for here's a quote from Novak on Press the Meat yesterday:

Republicans are very pessimistic about 2008. When you talk to them off the record, they don't see how they can win this thing. And then they think for a minute, and only the Democratic Party, with everything in their favor, would say that, "OK, this is the year either to have a woman or an African-American to break precedent, to do things the country has never done before." And it gives the Republicans hope.

Ah, those hopeful Republicans--banking on America being sexist and racist.

You said it. Banking on racism and sexism to "take the country back." Way to go, guys.

And democrats undermining the war effort for political gain isn't despicable? Let me remind you that in order for the Dems to be "right" on the issue of Iraq then American troops have to die. We have to pull out of a desperate situation there, leaving millions of Iraqis at the mercy of the dogs that are the bad guys. Then the dems will have been "right" about the war.

You guys have to remember, Novak is no politician, he's a writer; he's an entertainer, if you will. You don't have to read him or even refer to him. I have a suggestion for you. Do what I do when it comes to (unfunny) Al Franken and (moronic) Janeane Garofalo: ignore them.

And let me remind you that in order for Republicans (minus Lugar, Hagel, Warner, et al recently) to be "right" on the issue of Iraq then even more American troops have to die. (This is a test of the emergency logic system. This is only a test. In the event real logic breaks out, a genuine dialog might ensue.)

Yeah, because agency for the killing bullets, shrapnel and explosive charges in Iraq lies with the Democrats 6,000 miles from the battle rather than with George W. Bush and his enablers like mcconfrontation, who trumped up the war in the first place and have run it with minimal interference and maximal incompetence for the past four years.

War isn't hell, it's a semantical game.

And democrats undermining the war effort

Tht talking point doesn't work any more. Less than 28% of Americans believe that one any more. Sorry you're one of them. Nobody is "undermining the war effort." To what end would anyone? It's been said 1,000,000 times and by better people than me as to why that's a dead talking point.

Let me remind you that in order for the Dems to be "right" on the issue of Iraq then American troops have to die.

What?? Which bad guys are you referring to? Al-Queda in Iraq? Insurgents? Sunnis in a Shia neighborhood? Shia in a Sunni neighborhood? And what does that have to do with Dems being right? Go back to Red State and clarify that talking point for me please.

No. That dubious honor (entertainer) resides with G. Gordon Liddy and Rush Limbaugh. But Novak? Nope. He's actually a reporter. We hold guys like him accountable differently than Rush Limbaugh or John Stewart. Those guys make us laugh and cringe because they are entertainers. Novak's job is to report news and levvy opinion based on fact. Thus, when he says something stupid like "Republicans have hope that the Dems will run a black or a chick" then guys like Novak need to be held accountable.

And honestly...you as a Republican should b pissed about what he said because he just called you and all your friends racists and sexists. That would piss me off to be painted with such a broad brush from a guy whom people rely on for facts.

smitty: 28% of people that are in the 72% of Americans who believed Iraq was behind 9/11 proves that the 43% of folks that are for gay marriage dissects the 6% of the population molested by priests by a 2.2% margin, producing exactly .0000003% of the country which is prone to feelings of at the very least mild depression, 36% of the time.

ahab: war isn't semantics it's a numbers game.

and for the record George i usually skip Novak, he's pretty boring.

Just so long as you're having a good time with it, MCConfrontation. That's the important thing.
