Friday Random Ten

Spoon "The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine" Gimme Fiction
XTC "Omnibus" Nonsuch
Son Volt "Out of the Picture" Trace
The Mekons "Spit" Honky Tonkin'
New Order "Procession" Substance
Ito-k "Wishing" Freedom of Choice
Helium "Pat's Trick" What's Up Matador?
Laurie Anderson "Coolsville" Strange Angels
Richard & Linda Thompson "The Great Valerio" I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
Bob Dylan "I Can't Get You Off of My Mind" Timeless: Hank Williams Tribute

bonus
Ella Fitzgerald (Layo & Bushwacka Mix) "Angel Eyes" Verve Remixed 2

Oh well, not the strongest of weeks, despite many favored artists and even favored albums. In some ways my fave here is the Helium cut, and that sort of says it all. And in a very high and funny voice, too.

Bootsie's Rubber Band, "Bootzilla," Live in Louisville, 1978
Salt, "Dig Me a Hole," Country Girl: New Sounds of the Old West
Andrew Bird, "Simple X," Armchair Apocrypha
Postal Service, "We Will Become Silhouettes," Give Up
John Vanderslice, "White Plains," Cellar Door
Drag the River, "Willie," Hey Buddies. . .
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, "U.S. Government," Take Them On, On Your Own
Architecture in Helsinki, "Souvenirs," Fingers Crossed
Richmond Fontaine, "The Janitor," The Fitzgerald
Statistics, "(A Flashback)," Statistics

Bonus: Arcade Fire, "Wake Up," Funeral

Well, some variety if no coherence, with some recent Indie standards, the searing "Janitor," and the newest edition from a student who thought I wasn't funked up enough, and "Souvenirs," which I like a lot. Alas, no Captain and Tenielle.
