Going, Going, Ron

The LA Times reports:

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is unable to find or account for tens of thousands of valuable mementos of Reagan's White House years because a "near universal" security breakdown left the artifacts vulnerable to pilfering by insiders, an audit by the National Archives inspector general has concluded.

I'll pass on the easy joke--how fitting the Reagan Library can't remember where they put things--and point this out instead: you can lead a Republican to a library but you can't make him be honest. I mean, they're stealing from the country (the article states: "most gifts to presidents become property of the American people") and from their greatest hero's legacy. Plus you have to assume the pilferers, as they get called in the article, aren't doing it because they just have to have one of the billion Western style belt buckles the Gipper got in his years in office. They're doing it to sell the stuff. If you ever want to know where's the line when capitalism crosses over into greed, just look about 50 paces behind a rightwinger.

The article goes on to say:

The audit found that the Reagan library was unable to properly account for more than 80,000 artifacts out of its collection of some 100,000 such items, and "may have experienced loss or pilferage the scope of which will likely never be known."

It blamed the problem on lack of supervision, concluding that "adequate management controls were neither implemented nor properly monitored."

Gee, you'd think the people in charge of the Reagan Library where the same people in charge of Iraq.

Here's the truth about the supposed ransacking/pranking of the White House in 2001: "An official government investigation, however, reveals one major problem with these stories: They apparently never happened. According to statements from the General Services Administration that were reported on May 17, little if anything out of the ordinary occurred during the transition, and 'the condition of the real property was consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy.'"

You can go read about how Fox perpetuated the lie over and over and fooled people like you.

And to think you get mad at us on the left as if we were the ones who lie to you.

dear ahab,

my priority lies with the national security of our citizens, and i take no glee in that someone was waterboarded to get information to stop a terrorist attack. while that stance may differ with your obvious defense and sympathy of islamofascism, i don't think it runs contrary to the general idea that making fun of alzheimers patients is okay. that's all.

i can piss and moan about whatever i like, i think, until that is when uneducated voters such as yourself succeed in electing the pantsuit, after which time you very well may succeed in silencing people you consider dissenters of your opinion (fairness doctrine anyone?).

if that's chancy humor, i look forward to the cancer and special olympics jokes. got any good ones ahab?

You do know that the Alzheimers patient you are defending knowingly funded Latin American terrorist organizations by selling arms to Iran.

I mean, certainly you should be infinitely more offended by the circumvention of the law to help overthrow an elected government by selling weapons to the very Islamofacist of whom you are afraid, than you are offended by an Alheizmer's joke on a blog.

Bu then, I assume you have your priorities straight.

Priorities, priorities. First get your facts straight Bryan. The shah was certainly NOT elected, and if you read your history you'd know that the drivel that Khomeini spewed while in exile before he installed himself as the de facto theocratic dictator of Iran was all lies. Khomeini lied to every mass media outlet and government before the fall of the shah, saying that he would install a democratic government in Iran, then about faced everyone and instead declared himself Ayatollah and instituted Sharia law. The US wasn't the only entity fooled by this two timer. Don't even get me started on Iran. You simpletons haven't figured out the scope of the Bush doctrine, which is to draw the enemy into a fight in the Middle East in order to disarm the Iranians with their nuclear ambitions and psychopathic President (also not REALLY elected). It's called the "big picture," but you folks can't see past your noses.

And Bryan, I wasn't THAT offended by the Alzheimers joke. I mean, it takes a LOT to offend me. I was merely trying to point out how it wasn't very classy, that's all. But if you guys want to bag on retards and limbless Iraqi war veterans go for it.

Yeah, the U.S. (along with Britain) funded a coup to overthrow Mossadegh because he had the audacity to nationalize the Iranian oil industry.

However, I wasn't referring to the Shah. I was referring to the U.S.'s financial support of the Contras in Nicaragua - which were, by every definition of the word, terrorists - funded by the sale of arms to Iran. But let's not let a trivial point like that get in the way...

The rhetoric of around Islamofacists threats holds little merit when taking into account it was your Neocon heroes that were largely responsible for arming them.

You simpletons haven't figured out the scope of the Bush doctrine, which is to draw the enemy into a fight in the Middle East in order to disarm the Iranians with their nuclear ambitions and psychopathic President (also not REALLY elected).

Amazingly successful doctrine. Working like a charm, yessiree. I mean, nothing deters an anti-American psychopath like the opportunity to shoot American soldiers.

Bryan, The Iranian President will not be deterred. He's going to go down swinging. The aim is not to deter that regime, it is to cease proliferation of nucllear arms to the globes biggest state sponsor of terrorism. You must be in the "everyone has a right to possess nukes" camp. People that hold that stance do not understand the ramification of a nuclear Iran.
