. . . and the Pixies fly in on the encore to supply a song I know!

Yea, Pixies.

I knew the Pixies would make you happy, Mike.

Another fine list you've gotten us into. . .

For Ahab, if he's interested, a concert review of Califone.

Review: Califone; June 9, 2007 at Rock & Roll Hotel; DC

Thanks for the review, Marty. I was interested to read about that club, too. I've never been there and Damien Jurado is playing there on September 30.

Hey, how come nobody else leaves Friday Random Ten lists here at George's?

George possesses a John-Holmes-sized record-cd collection, Ahab, with which I can't compete, so I don't bother, but I enjoy reading the lists, his and yours. I'd try to find a better venue on the tour. Cool bar, poor acoustics.

Marty, I didn't mean to be so intimidating. But it will get worse once I get set-up to download all my big 12 inches, too.

Marty, many thanks for the advice. Jurado's playing a night earlier in Philly but I already have tickets to see Devendra Banhart elsewhere in Philly that night. I don't know what the hell I'm going to do. But based on your advice, I'm definitely not going to miss the Eagles vs the Giants on ESPN on the evening of the 30th (yes, please nobody tell Tom H, but I watch football, in fact I'm a longtime Eagles season ticket holder. George, did I surmise correctly from a comment you once made about the Dolphins that you are a Jets fan? Or am I the only uncultured buffoon on this thread? I lived in Philly for a few years mid-80's and got seats when Buddy Ryan was coach).

Marty, did your partner Amy really play with Califone last month? How cool! Has she ever recorded with them? (I reviewed their bio this morning on AllMusicGuide and just realized that they made that Loftus album, which I have and love and somehow never connected with them. I haven't listened to it in years, so I put it in my iTunes today.)

Put up a Friday Random Ten once a month, maybe, Marty.

I am currently a football agnostic. Spend way too much time obsessed with baseball to pay much attention to any other sport. Growing up I was a Jets fan, but I don't feel too much for them or any other team anymore.

I'll think about posting once in awhile, Ahab. No, my Amy didn't play with them. Just a name coincidence. The celloist was an old friend of Jim's and they were all staying at her house. We were standing with Tim out front when Jim informed him that Amy would join them on a couple of songs and that she could keep up. One detail I left out of the review was that they'd started "Michigan Girls" when Tim realized he hadn't given Amy time to join them on stage. Tim looked to the side, noticed her absence, and stopped the song halfway into the first verse to let her join them. Smiles, and it was worth it.

Fruitbats too started as the original Califone lineup with Eric Johnson fronting instead of Tim, I believe. Good luck figuring out where to be when, but at least you have good choices to make.

Great, I'm the only NFL-watching misfit. What's your baseball team, George? I'll go to a Phillies game now and then.

I might be able to catch Jurado in Boston on the way up or back from Maine to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday.

He's opening for Okkervil River, who I'm unfamiliar with. And they're playing small clubs everywhere. I don't get it -- the guy is amazing. He should be headlining.

He'll be in LA at the Troubador on 9/4/07 and Athens, Georgia at 40 Watt on 10/3/07, if you guys are interested.

Don't know Okkervil River either, but the group sure does well on Metacritic.

I'm a Mets fan since childhood (hence the dog named Mookie), but fantasy baseball also means I'm a fan of lots of individual players, too.

Metacritic for music, what a good idea. I saw you had it in your blogroll, but I assumed you used it solely as I do, which is for movies. I find it's very useful. Just scroll down to the lowest scores and see what critics disliked about a particular film. I gave Metacritic a try once for books, but they've only got the last couple of years of a pretty limited scope.

Mets, of course. Yuck. And I had you figured for a rotisserie guy too. With all of your interests and activities (and presumably some kind of a job), where do you find time for your life? (You don't have to answer that one.)

Elizabeth (my daughter) sent me some Okkervil River as someone I might like. I'd go see them.

They sound great. Thanks, Marty. I'm going to pick up their Black Sheep Boy album set, if anybody wants a copy.
